My highlights of the year
Maybelline Master Strobing Stick, Mac Soft and Gentle, Fenty Killawat Duo, The Balm Mary Lou |
Happy New Year to all! I can't believe it is now 2019, so crazy how each year seems to be going faster than the others. Is this because we're getting older and our lives are much busier or simply because of how the world is constantly evolving at a faster rater now.
Today I thought I'd share my highlights of 2018- sorry couldn't help my self with the pun!
I was once someone who never used highlights and even now my collection is tiny compared to many. But I can honestly say, a good dusting of highlight really completes a look.
The Maybelline Master Strobing Stick £5.59- I first spotted this in the lovely Jade Pierce's everyday make up look video. The way she applied it looked so effortless and I knew I needed it, now this product has become a staple in my full face routine. I apply a little bit of this using my Sigma F60 synthetic foundation brush, on the top of my cheek bones, on my brow bone, on my cupids bow and sometimes in my inner tear ducts and then I add my powder highlight on top, this really makes it pop! So I guess you can say I use this as a primer. Sometimes I also implement this on it's own in my no fuss, daily make up routine when I need to look a bit more dewy and fresh faced. I like how it has a subtle pearly finish to it
The Mac Mineralised Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle £26.50- Unlike my other highlighters, I don't use this on my face but rather use it on my brow bone, inner tearducts and cupids bow. As it is a pink undertoned highlighter I feel like it doesn't really go with my olive complexion, it seems a little too late for me. But saying this once I've applied it to the other places mentioned, it looks divine! I always use this to finish off an eye look, it ties the look in and gives a great finish
The Fenty Beauty Killawat Duo in Mean Money and Hu$tla Baby £28- Now it's no secret that this is one of my favourites as it's already made an appearance on my page. You can read the full review of it by clicking here. I am still very much in love with this and don't see my self getting bored of it any time soon
The Balm Mary Loumanizer £11- And finally, I left the best till last. This was the first highlighter to grace my collection. I felt like it's quite a subtle one to start off with and I wasn't wrong. It's nicely pigmented, if you just pop a little bit on your brush and dust it over the right places, you'll be gleaming. It has a natural looking finish that I like as I'm not brave enough to be standing out of the crowd
Overall, as you can see, I tend to reach for highlighters with a more goldy undertone to them as I find this suits my NC40, warmer skin tone. The pinky ones are nice too but I feel like they would suit lighter skin tones.
